How it works
Everything you need to know
How does price negotiation work?
When you choose a destination you see a reference fare. You can request the ride at that price or offer a different one (at least 50% of the reference fare) and adjust it while we look for a driver. Nearby drivers accept your offer or counter with +$2, +$3 or +$5, and you decide. Each counteroffer lasts 60 seconds and the whole request lasts 5 minutes.
Is there a fee on top of the agreed price?
Yes: a $3 service fee per ride, shown in the app before you request. The agreed price is what the driver earns. The reference fare may include tolls, a night surcharge (11 p.m. to 5 a.m.) and an airport surcharge for JFK, LaGuardia and Newark.
How do I pay?
With a credit or debit card saved in your account, or with your Ride$ balance. You're charged when the ride is confirmed. Apple Pay and Google Pay work for tips and for buying Ride$. Payments are processed by Stripe.
What is Ride$?
It's an in-app balance you can use to pay for rides. Ride$ you buy never expires. Promotional Ride$ (promo codes, challenges and referrals) is used first and expires 30 days after you receive it.
Can I cancel a ride?
While we're looking for a driver, cancelling is free. If you cancel after the ride is confirmed and before pickup, 50% of the agreed price is kept for the driver and the rest is refunded. If the driver waits 10 minutes at pickup and you don't show up, they can mark the ride as a no-show and the full agreed price is charged. If the driver or RideAhead cancels, you get a full refund.
When and where can I ride?
We're in pre-launch. Rides will start in New York City and the surrounding area once our TLC base license is issued. Join the waitlist and we'll let you know first.
What do I need to drive with RideAhead?
A New York State driver's license, a TLC driver license, a TLC-licensed vehicle affiliated with our base, the commercial insurance the TLC requires, and the checks required by law. You apply entirely from the driver app.
