Accessibility Statement
Last updated: October 5, 2026
Our commitment
RideAheadNYC wants everyone to be able to get around New York, including people with disabilities. This statement covers the accessibility of our rides, the RideAheadNYC rider and driver apps (the "Apps") and the website at rideaheadnyc.com (the "Website").
Accessible rides
Wheelchair-accessible vehicles. The rider app offers a Wheelchair ride type for vehicles that can carry a passenger in a wheelchair, subject to availability. It costs the same as an XL ride. As a TLC-licensed livery base, we will meet the accessibility requirements that the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission sets for bases.
Service animals. Service animals are always allowed to ride with you, on any ride type and at no extra charge. You do not need to request a Pet ride for a service animal.
Mobility devices. Drivers must allow foldable wheelchairs, walkers and other mobility devices that fit safely in the vehicle, and should help store them if you ask.
No refusals. Drivers may not refuse or cancel a ride, or treat a rider differently, because of a disability, a mobility device or a service animal. A driver who does so may be removed from the platform.
Communicating with your driver. You can message your driver through the in-app chat instead of calling, for example if you are deaf or hard of hearing, or if you prefer text.
Website
We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA, as our target for the Website. What we've done so far:
Semantic HTML with headings, landmarks and labeled form fields, so the Website works with screen readers.
Menus, the language selector and forms can be used with a keyboard, and interactive controls have accessible names.
The Website is available in six languages (English, Spanish, French, Russian, Chinese and Arabic), declares the language of each page, and displays Arabic right to left.
Decorative images and the background video are hidden from screen readers. The video has no sound, and it is not shown if your device is set to reduce motion.
Text and controls use high-contrast colors on a dark background.
Apps
We are working to make the Apps usable with VoiceOver (iOS) and TalkBack (Android), with larger text sizes and with sufficient color contrast. If something in the Apps does not work with your assistive technology, please tell us so we can fix it.
Known limitations
The Website and Apps are under active development, and some parts may not meet our target yet. For example, the Website's background video does not have a pause button (it stops only when your device is set to reduce motion), and legal documents are available only in English.
Report a barrier or a refusal
If you find something that makes the Website or Apps hard to use, or if a driver refused you service or treated you differently because of a disability, a mobility device or a service animal, contact us through the support option in the App, at rideaheadnyc.com/support or at [email protected]. Please include the date and time of the ride if it is about a trip. We review every report.
You can also file a complaint with the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission by calling 311.
